Fraud

Fraud involves causing the public or a person to incur a financial loss, lose property or provide a service through trickery, a lie, breach of trust or any other similarly dishonest means.

What is the difference between THEFT and FRAUD?

The presence or absence of consent is the criterion that determines the difference between THEFT and FRAUD, as follows:

- THEFT is when a person takes property without the victim’s consent; and

- FRAUD is when a person acquires a good, a service or money with the victim’s consent, where this consent was obtained through trickery, deceit or any other dishonest means.
