One of the ten most wanted criminals in Quebec arrested in the United States

One of the ten most wanted criminals in Quebec, Parthasarthie Kapoor, was arrested on Monday January 20 in the United States after being on the run for more than 17 years. The 47-year-old man was the subject of an arrest warrant issued in 2003 in connection with numerous charges, ranging from sexual assault to the production and possession of child pornography.

From 1998 to 2003, Parthasarthie Kapoor is suspected to have sexually assaulted a total of five victims in Montréal. He targeted young boys between the ages of 7 and 14, lured them into his home and then sexually assaulted them.

In 2003, when he learned he was the subject of a police investigation, Kapoor, a Canadian permanent resident, fled to the United States. Canada-wide and international arrest warrants were then issued against the suspect so that he could be returned to Canada.

American authorities finally intercepted the fugitive on Monday at Newark Airport as he attempted to fly to India, his home country. The day after his arrest, Kapoor appeared at the New Jersey District Court. He is currently in U.S. custody pending extradition proceedings.

The arrest of Parthasarthie Kapoor was made possible by the joint work of the Sexual Assault Section of the SPVM, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canada Border Services Agency, the United States Marshals Service, the US Customs and Border Protection and Interpol. The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs of the Department’s Criminal Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey are handling the extradition proceedings.
