Fraud: Spoofing of government telephone numbers

The SPVM wishes to inform the public that scammers are using telephone numbers from government departments, including those of the SPVM, to extort money from citizens. To trick people, they would use an application that allows them to display the phone number of their choice during a call.

Here are some prevention tips to follow when you receive such calls.
• Never disclose your personal information during a call.
• No police or government department ever requests the transfer of funds by cryptocurrency or the purchase of cards.

Anyone who may have been a victim of fraud is asked to go to their neighbourhood police station or to call 911 to file an official complaint.
