The SPVM assures greater police visibility in 5 Montréal neighbourhoods

Montréal, September 22, 2020 — The Director of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), Sylvain Caron, held a press briefing today, accompanied by Christine Christie, Inspector with the Service des enquêtes criminelles, and Cédric Couture, Inspector with the Service de la gendarmerie du Sud-Ouest, to share the results of the Project Trinité investigation regarding an attempted murder that occurred in October 2019 in Côte-des-Neiges. Mr. Caron also sought to reassure the population regarding all the work done by his police officers to solve violent crimes and assure greater police visibility in the areas that require it.

“Such events have an impact on the sense of safety felt by the citizens. I wish to reassure them today about the investigative work that has been done and that is not always visible. I want the public to know that we are there, that we are present and that we are doing our job. Montréal has always been proud to proclaim that it is a safe city and that all Montréal police officers are doing everything in their power to keep it that way. I thank them for this,” Mr. Caron emphasizes.

The Director of the SPVM expressed his determination to solve the other violent incidents that have occurred in the territory and that are undermining Montrealers’ feeling of security, especially in certain areas. The SPVM does not intend to skimp on resources.

He also took the opportunity to remind the public about the neighbourhood security operation, which is continuing in the weeks ahead and which involves reinforcement and greater support for Ville-Marie, Montréal-Nord, Ahuntsic and Rivière-des-Prairies in their local police visibility plans.
