Arrest of the suspect linked to two hate crimes

The investigators from the Module incidents et crimes haineux (MICH) of the Division de la prévention et sécurité urbaine at the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) arrested a minor this morning. He turned himself in. Wanted for assaults committed on January 20, 2022, he was released from custody subject to conditions pending his appearance before the Court of Quebec, Youth Division on May 5, 2023.

The SPVM wishes to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of reporting hate crimes.  We highlight that according to the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey, a hate crime is a criminal offence motivated or suspected to be motivated by hate based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, gender identity, expression or sexual orientation or any other similar factor.

If you are a victim or witness of a hate crime, call 911 immediately or report it directly online using the form available for this purpose.

Thank you for your cooperation as always.
