Details about the new uniform:
- The change will be made when it is time to replace the uniform, to reduce costs. We waited for our uniform contract to expire before a issuing a call for tenders for the new uniforms.
- Wearing the blue-black shirt will also allow the SPVM to blend in with the other municipal police services in Canada. The SPVM was the only police service that was wearing steel blue for police officers on patrol-related duties.
- The uniform was changed to make the shirt the same colour as the trousers. The white shoulder patch that differentiates the SPVM from other police services will be maintained.
- Our philosophy has not changed. We are still a community police service. Our officers’ mandate is to be in their community and to get closer to the public, and the colour of the uniform will not change anything in our approach.
