Organized Crime

In the past years in Montréal, certain murders and attempted murders related to organized crime show that there is a certain instability in the criminal environment. Most criminal groups use violence and intimidation to achieve their objectives and they are motivated by the pursuit of profit and power

At the SPVM, there are a number of units that partner  with other police and institutional organizations to fight against organized crime.

On the ground, in particular, there is the Eclipse Squad working group. This specialized squad improves information gathering, which advances investigations and leads to arrests. In addition, the Eclipse Squad’s presence in areas frequented by organized crime figures is also aimed preventing violent confrontations.
