Online police report

Are you a victim of breaking and entering, mischief, graffiti, theft or fraud (by telemarketing or pyramid sales)?

You can complete a police report online without having to go to the local station.

Just meet the following conditions:

  • You didn’t see and don’t know the suspect.
  • There was no witness of the scene or camera on the premises.
  • There was no breaking and entering.
  • There was no clue left on the premises (tool, prints, blood, etc.).
  • You cannot make an online report for theft of the following items: (e.g. firearm, rifle, etc.), passport, citizenship certificate, ID or permanent resident card, gun licence, Nexus card, explosives licence). You must go to your neighbourhood police station.

After submitting the report, a temporary number will be automatically sent to you by email. It is important to submit a valid email address and check your “spam” or call 911.

Submitting a false report is considered to be a criminal offence subject to prosecution (public mischief: Section 140 of the Criminal Code).

Please ensure the language required for your copy of the report if the request comes from a company. We do not send any translated copy.

If you are a victim or a witness of a hate crime, call 911 immediately for help or to file a complaint.

If you believe you are a victim of a hate incident in Ville de Montréal territory, you can report it by:

  • going to your neighbourhood police station on the Island of Montréal;
  • fill out a report directly online.

It is important to report hate incidents to prevent them from becoming hate crimes.

Breaking and entering is defined as the offence committed by “every one who breaks and enters a place with intent to commit an indictable offence therein. ”

Mischief regarding a vehicle

The value of the damage to the vehicle must be less than $10,000. Mischief is considered to be breakage or deterioration, as well as the fact of rendering any goods dangerous, inoperative or useless, for example, by loosening the wheel bolts or breaking a window.

Mischief

The value of the damaged goods must be less than $10,000. This concerns damage caused intentionally to a private, commercial or public property, or to any of your goods, for example, to the window of a building, a tree, etc.

LOST ITEM

The value of the lost goods must be less than $10,000. Any item belonging to you that was not stolen, but that you can no longer find and that you would like to report.

THEFT

Theft of a package

Under “Information on the event”: Enter the following:

  • START OF THE EVENT Date and time of confirmation of delivery of your package.
  • END OF THE EVENT Date and time when you noticed the theft/loss.

Theft in or on a vehicle

Under “Information on the event”: Enter the following:

  • THE START OF THE EVENT: corresponds to the last time (date and time) you saw your vehicle.
  • IN GOOD CONDITION: when you parked and left your vehicle, for example.
  • THE END OF THE EVENT: corresponds to the date and time when you noticed the mischief.

The value of the stolen goods must be less than $10,000. Individuals commit a theft in a vehicle when they take another person’s goods located in the vehicle, regardless of whether they commit damage by entering it.

Theft of a purse (without violence)

The value of the stolen goods must be less than $10,000. If your purse was inside a vehicle, you must select “Theft in or on a vehicle”. If your credit or debit cards are stolen and if these cards are used after the theft, you must notify Equifax and your financial institution. You then must go to a neighbourhood police station to have an event report taken.

Theft of a bicycle

The value of the stolen goods must be less than $10,000. If your bicycle was on or inside a vehicle, you must select “Theft in or on a vehicle”.

Petty larceny

The value of the stolen goods must be less than $10,000. Individuals commit petty larceny when they take another person’s goods without threat or violence. It is important to fill out the report in the language required by the company requesting a copy of the report (e.g. for thefts of Amazon packages, the company requires a report in English. Make sure to answer in English). You must enter the order number of the website and the package delivery tracking number.
